Revival Daily Topic: Pride Text: John 13:1-12

Devotionals

Introduction
Our Bible text made us to understand that He
Took off His outer clothing. When you have the outer clothing on you, you can’t humble yourself. You must first put off the outer garment.
This outer garment represents PRIDE. It won’t allow you to serve others. It may also represent your title, portfolio, leadership position etc.
Jesus did not have pride (sinful pride).

Pride is when you are always having the outer garment on you. wrapped a towel round His waist. This is another clothing. But this time around, it is humility clothing. When you put off the outer garment of pride, you are expected to put on a towel of humility. The outer garment will not allow you to have access to your followers or colleagues. You can’t attend to the feet of your fellow men when you have the outer garment put on you.
Jesus was only trying to teach His disciples what pride is and what humility is.
The outer garment qualifies you to seat on a high seat but the towel round your waist helps you to come down from that high seat in order to access others.
After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet. It is after putting off your outer garment and have wrapped towel round your waist that you can stoop so low to serve.
Phil. 2:7-8 Rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. Until you make yourself nothing, you are still proud.
When are we going to have excos of fellowship that will go to church to sweep, dust the chairs, arrange the chairs and the workers will come and discover that all the necessary work has been done?
Hmmmm! Everybody wants to be BOSS. Boss of Pride! The fact that you put off your outer garment and have wrapped towel of humility doesn’t mean that you have lost your position as a leader. You will still return to your place. Humility doesn’t deprive you of your place, rather it preserves it for you.
Immediately Jesus was done with His act of humility, He returned to His rightful place. You will always return to your place when your put on humility.

Prayer Point: Today, I renounce self.. Lord put every work of self in me to death.

Shalom !
